'Decent Chaps’ can play background music whilst you are dining & music to dance to later in the evening. The repertoire is large, varied & includes Jazz, Swing, Latin, Rat Pack, 1920s-1940s, Strict-tempo, Boogie-woogie, Jump-Jive, standards such as La Mer, Have You Met Miss Jones, Mack the Knife, Fly Me to the Moon, The Lady is a Tramp, La Bamba, Buona Sera, In The Mood, Straighten up and Fly Right etc, etc. 

 

Alan Walker – Saxes; Clarinet; Flute; Piano; Vocals

Alan has played all over the world and toured as a member of Shakatak; The Pasadena Roof Orchestra; The Supremes; Chantilly Lace; The Temperance Seven, Kenny Ball and The Memphis Belle Orchestra to name but a few. He has also appeared with Kenny Baker; Eric Delaney; Betty Smith; Tommy Chase and Buddy Greco. Alan has composed and played music for television and radio, including various drama and nature programmes. He is much in demand for various shows, pantomimes etc and plays with several bands around the country, including the Nottingham Jazz Orchestra and Fidgety Feet. For the last 22 years he has fronted his own band “Decent Chaps”, playing Jazz; Swing; RatPack; Latin: Boogie-woogie; 1920s-1940s, Strict-tempo and Jump-Jive, travelling the country playing at various large and small events.

 

Steve Truman – Double Bass
Steve’s first paid gig was singing backing vocals for Supertramp at the age of ten. He went on to make many appearances both live and on vinyl as a boy chorister. He took up the double bass at 12, and moved to Nottingham aged 18. He makes his living as a session bassist playing Jazz, Country, Folk, Eastern European, African, and experimental music, and even makes the odd appearance on sax. He has played with drum legend Jim Chapin, Darius Brubeck, and Indian Bansuri master Deepak Ram, and toured nationally with P J Proby. He now plays with Decent Chaps and other bands.

Mike Robinson - Mike is a well-established and familiar player, much in demand, who also plays with several other bands around the country, when he's not playing with Decent Chaps on guitar.

Andy White – Drums and Vocals
Andy has played drums since he was 7 starting in a brass band with his father and grandfather. In his early years he played in the northern club circuit with a band called 'Horizon' and also original local rock band 'Leviathan'. He has spent many years playing trad jazz with various bands and also in his local church band. Whilst in Leicester he sang with the Leicester Barber Shop Choir. He has played drums for Decent Chaps since its inception and also sings lead and backing vocals.

Steve Nutter - a member of Fidgety Feet, The South & various other bands, often joins Decent Chaps on guitar , vocals and double bass.

​

Russ Buckberry - a member of several bands including Nottingham Jazz Orchestra (of which he is now a manager) often joins Decent Chaps on cornet and trumpet.

​

Steve RoddaIn 1977 Steve formed a reggae/ska four-piece band; “Savvy”, performing 90% original material on the Birmingham circuit. In 1980 formed; “The Team” performing original material by Steve, CBS records became interested and paid for recording sessions in London, flying in American producer Robbie Stevens. He often plays for Decent Chaps
